West Ham United U23 came from behind to claim a convincing 3–1 victory over Newcastle United U23 after a frantic opening few minutes in London.
Newcastle struck inside the first minute when striker Sam Neave finished off a slick move, but the young Hammers hit back instantly — Kieran Ronan bursting forward to level just seconds later. The hosts took control from there, with Kane Wooster producing a clinical first-half double in the space of two minutes (33’, 35’) to put West Ham firmly in charge.
The second half saw plenty of chances, as Philips and Halim both went close, but West Ham’s composure ensured the points stayed in east London.
Wooster’s brace and tireless display earned him Man of the Match, while keeper Herrick made key saves to frustrate the visitors. Newcastle battled gamely but couldn’t recover after their early lead evaporated.
Also two points dropped really. We're an inconsistent side going forward and it probably didn't help the cause that half of both sides know each other pretty well having played for the other side until a few weeks ago. That is probably reflected in the performance of both side's goalkeepers who were safe hands against their former teammates.
They called one of their defenders man of the match but I'm confused when Carre absolutely bossed the middle single handedly but just didn't have an assist to show for it.
