Newcastle United 1 - 1 West Ham United
"Sub Schick saves the day"
Newcastle United were denied the victory as West Ham United struck deep into stoppage time to earn a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park.
The Magpies started brightly, with Isak and Nkunku both testing Hammers keeper Meret early on, but West Ham carried a constant threat, registering more shots and forcing goalkeeper Dearnley into a string of excellent saves. The breakthrough finally arrived just before half-time when Nkunku curled home a precise finish to give Newcastle a deserved lead.
West Ham responded after the break, with Robsie and Kudus going close, but Dearnley stood firm. The game turned on 75 minutes when Newcastle's Ugochukwu was sent off, leaving Newcastle to defend deep under mounting pressure.
Despite heroic defending and multiple late saves, Newcastle’s resistance was finally broken in the 91st minute. Substitute Patrik Schick reacted quickest to a rebound, firing home to snatch a dramatic equaliser.
Nkunku earned Man of the Match for his goal and lively display, but West Ham will feel their persistence merited a point after dominating large spells.
