Everton 1 v 0 AL Ahly

This one was a game that worried me and I thought we could have real problems and in the end even though the score only reads 1-0 we clearly were the more clinical with our shots on target team and maybe could have won by more.
Our opponents managed only one shot on target in the game and that is testament to our back line and keeper who managed the game well.
On the plus side for us is new signing Son is off the mark getting the only goal and we would have liked more but as I said before the game our opponents had a slightly stronger team than us and it showed here in their keeper and also restricting us to what we got in the end and maybe we were lucky that the draw gave us the home advantage in this one or maybe we could have had a different result altogether.

The three points keeps us where we want to be but there is still a long way to go yet with five games left.

Reds 1 - 0 Marinos

A game we dominated from the start and never looked like losing but we made it difficult for ourselves when we had Gerson sent off after only 11 minutes played. Gerson lost his temper and head-butted Jeison Quinones. A very much deserved red card and we have to sit down with Gerson in the upcoming week. A behavior we can't accept. Despite playing most of the game with ten men we performed very well and created chance after chance. After hitting the woodwork twice in the opening thirty minutes we got a very deserved goal very late in the first half. The referee added three minutes in the first half and seconds before the half time we got the opening goal. Sandro Tonali saw Joao Felix with loads of space in front of him and played a great ball to Felix. Felix curled the ball into the top corner and we went into the dressing room with a good feeling of getting out of this with the win.

Joao Felix thought he had made it 2-0 and scored his second of the evening early in the second half but the referee ruled the goal out when he had spotted a foul in the build up play. Probably a harsh decision but we had to get over it and keep ourselves in front for the remainder of the game. Joao Felix was once again at the center of attention with twenty minutes left of the game. He tried to chip Hiroki Iikura but the ball hit the inside of the post and went into Iikura's arms. We went defensive in the last fifteen minutes of the game to protect the lead and when the referee blew for full time we had won the game by a single goal. It's our third straight win but we've yet to face the best teams in the group stages and we know our performance must be better if we want a successful tournament.

Everton 1-0 Al Ahly
Not good enough from us. We created chances but couldn't hit the target - had the better of possession but couldn't translate that into more chances. We gave away the counter until they scored and then we had it for a large period but we couldn't make it count. In the end the sccoreline was about right - but it could easily have been more.

As it is we have one point from our opening two games but we have been away in both of them so it's not the end of the world. When we start welcoming sides to Cairo hopefully that will tell a different story.

Unfortunately football throws up joke results like this from time to time. Nothing more I could've done, right tactic, most possession and chances, better team and we concede one of their only two shots on target. Talk about getting FM'd!

Not going so well for us so far, think I'll stick to my day job.
