Reds U23 (0) 0 - 1 (1) Spurs U23

We continue to make life difficult for us and we're playing without confident at the moment. We know there's been big changes to the team but we still have to do the job needed to get results. Victor Madu scored an own goal after half an hour played and it's hard to tell how his own goal was the only goal of the game. We dominated and created 21 attempts on goal, 8 of them hitting the target. This game should have been won but when you don't believe you will win games, you don't take your chances. Very disappointing result.

Blues U23 (1) 1 - 2 (0) Eagles U23

A pretty even game overall where we managed to take advantage of our great performance in the second half. We fell behind in the opening minute when Callum Hudson-Odoi scored for The Blues U23. At half time we found ourselves a goal down and we can yet again thank Aaron Maguire for keeping within a chance of getting a result. His performance in the first half was absolute outstanding. We made the most of the half time talk and five minutes after the break we was back on level terms when Can Dean Karatas made it 1-1. We started to believe we had the quality to turn things around and in 77th minute we completed a great comeback. Omari Mustapha became the big hero when he scored a great goal from distance. Top result for us.

Aston Villa U23s 3-0 Brentford
As clear a victory as you will see in FMFA this week. We knew the opposition manager was neglecting his U23 side and so we setup accordingly. It allowed us to dominate the game with 67% possession and 24 shots to their one. The eventual 3-0 scoreline flattered them if anything and we were in cruise control for much of the game. Only their goalkeeper stopped it being any more.

It was Keilan Quinn who got the ball rolling with his first goal of the season after just five minutes with a superb finish after some great individual work. The 17 year old then turned provider setting up Tom Costello for his first of the campaign just before the break. The striker then added his second and put the game beyond doubt midway through the second half.

Always nice to get the result when you dominate the game. We would have liked to have scored more but maybe that is just greedy. Certainly we get a lot of these games where the win just doesn't come so it is pleasing to have one go our way.

We're in a tough group with the Champions who showed their worth with a big win in their game so points are important. With two going through as long as we beat the other teams in this one we'll be fine - but i'd also like to think we can give Everton more of a run for their money this season too.

We're two wins from two to start the season - doesn't get better than that

Burley U23s 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers U23s
For a long time it looked like we were going to lose to 10 men who turned up without a manger and a plan. When they went down to 10 men after 30 mins I thought this would be relatively simple for us but we couldn't get past them and they even then hit us with a sucker punch to take the lead. We ended up with new backup GK Rice playing up front and it was after this change that McKenna finally got us back on terms. Ironically it may well be McKenna's last act for the club as he leaves to join Sheffield United this weekend

So we have to settle for a point away from home to kick off the group campaign. Not the worst but could and maybe should have been better.

Having focused fully on the seniors since I came in I have now switched focus to the youths and hopefully this round of transfers will add some quality - especially in secondary skills. We want to get in players who can really benefit the first XV in the long term and that's what we're trying to do. It means it will be a tricky season as the club try to find an identity but the long term benefit of the senior side has to be a priority.

Having said that we will be doing our best to be as competitive as possible and hopefully progress in cups and in the top half of the table. It won't be easy but there are some positives already showing
