West Bromwich Albion U23 0- 3 Aston Villa U23
After our disastrous first league game of the season it was good to come away from home and get a solid win - doing the senior and U23 double over our local rivals in the process. We were tactically spot on and got the counter enabling us to control the game with 71% possession and have double the amount of shots they had.

Defender Yusuf Bildik scored the opening goal of the game with a delightful lob over the goalkeeper. The Turk is though to be the next one in line for a call up to the seniors and he did himself no harm at all with that finish. Striker Tom Costello added to the lead just before half time to make for a relaxed interval and it was him who finished the game off just after the hour mark. Dowell came off the bench to play 22 minutes and received a great ovation from the crowd in what was his final appearance for the club. The only downside to the game was the injury to Italian defender Federico Valietti who will now miss the next three matches.

So, after a false start we are up and running in the league which is a relief. Looking at the quality in this division I anticipate a really close contest with maybe a couple of sides cast adrift. We can't afford too many slip ups if we want to be anywhere near the title picture in this division. As the season progresses sides will lose out with players being promoted etc but we continue to work hard to make sure we aren't too badly impacted. The rate at which we are producing for the first team now is a huge positive as well.
