A fair element of revenge here for the 4-2 beating we took at home a few weeks back. Spence was on fire for them that day scoring 4 goals but we managed to keep him quiet and put in a much better shift of our own this time around.
They had the counter but we started positively and Tom Costello was brought down in the box by their GK just 5 minutes in. Karamoko Dembele took the kick and duly slotted home for his 7th of the season. Unfortunately they hit back 15 mins later through Canadian attacking midfielder Le and we went into the break all square. The difference came on the hour mark when they had defender Baxter sent off for a foul as the last man. Still it wasn't until the 80th minute when Rory Wilson scored from a pull back from Tim Iroegbunam that we looked like winning. Ismael Bouleghcha added a 3rd a minute later to give us a more comfortable last 10 minutes than we anticipated. Overall we were deserved winners and pleased with our performance in taking the game.
Newcastle being held by Man city sees us move to top of the group after half the games played in what looks like it'll be a three way scrap to qualify. I'm assuming that only the best 2 second placed teams progress so it really is a fight as the second in a tight group is rarely one of the best. So we're going have to focus on this and ensure we get top spot.
There's a lot of games in this season and keeping the squad fit and legal is tough. We continue to work hard to keep challenging on all fronts.
