Coventry City U23 5 - 2 Aston Villa U23

Two high scoring games between local rivals of old. Not sure the Coventry and Villa rivalry is as big as it was for me seeing as we haven't played them in 25 years in real life - ask me again next week - but this was a thrilling Quarter Final tie. We edged the first leg 3-2 in a game that was finely balanced. The second leg was also a good open battle, although Villa dominated the chances created.

Thankfully we were clinical with ours, scoring five goals out of our 10 attempts on target, and we can progress to the semi final. A hat trick from Dausch and goals for Obikwu and Osborne see us through to the final four, and it'll be another tough battle. Aston Villa are one of the standards to be measured against in U23 football here, and although they were missing their starting goalkeeper, we need to celebrate that we've knocked out an exceptionally good side.

Derby County U23 1 - 1 Sunderland U23

Playing both Derby's senior and youth in these league cup semi finals. Got a narrow 1-0 win whilst I was away in the first leg, and rode that into the grand final here. We were defending big and deep all afternoon as illustrated by the ten key tackles the team made to prevent Derby from finding the equaliser on aggregate at home as they played pretty well. Hasn't been the best season but we have scrapped our way to a league cup final in the U23's too, we'll aim to go on and win it but expecting a tough battle against our opponents and against ourselves in that we are trying to stay up in the U23 Super League as well.
