New Season, New Team
A new season beckons and after a cavalcade of transfer action teams begin settling in for the road ahead. Having seen a sustained period of restraint QPR fans will surely be on cloud nine with their team having a mass overhaul in recent weeks that leaves as few as 8 remaining players who featured last season, manager Brown clearly looking to revitalise his squad after a disappointing showing last season.
Despite such disappointment however Brown appears to have the confidence of the board as a healthy budget was made available to him and he quickly set about utilising it, kicking off the window with a whopping £164,250,000 outlay on Italian wonderkid Geovanni Leoni, the goliath CB set to marshall the backline for many years to come. Joining Leoni shortly after came Scottish sensation Ben Doak for a more modest £45,500,000, adding some much needed flair and pace to the attacking midfield.
Business did not stop there, as despite the budget shrinking significantly the next deal saw first team regulars Saka and Mbenque departing for Sunderland, with a trio of young stars heading the opposite way, French full back Timothee Pembele and young English attacking midfield duo James Balagizi and Chris Rigg make their way to the capital.
Following that up was another trio of new additions as Brown made the perhaps controversial decision to allow star forward Mohammed Kudus to depart for West Ham alongside Luke Amos and Sven Botman, it is believed Brown was looking to add quality depth to his defensive midfield and central defense and apparently decided the sacrifice was worthwhile in pursuit of that. The unpredictable Darwin Nunez looks to be the man to fill Kudus's boots, while Conor Coventry and Alessio Romagnoli aim to bring the defensive stability required of them, only time will tell if this gamble pays off.
A final 2 additions came in the form of solo deals, firstly the signing of Harry Wilson from Fulham, the welshman is something of a dead ball specialist and brings a little more experience to the attacking midfield, alongside an ability to mentor his younger competition for the position who average just 20 years old. And lastly Ecuador International Pervis Estupinan arrives from Manchester City with Carlos Vinicius heading North along with a £10,000,000 fee.
Reports indicate that is likely the end of the business at Loftus Road, but in football it is foolish to rule out more should opportunities present themselves, regardless the fan have plenty of reason to be excited it just falls to the players to make it happen.
