Everton 4 - 1 Cordoba

An excellent start for us in this competition with an emphatic win.
We got off to a great start with an early goal from Richarlison who then doubled his tally around 20 minutes later to put us two up. Eze chipped in on hald an hour to get one and at half time we were comfortable at 3-0.
The second half was far more steady and we let them in on 73 mins and that let them pull one back. The team rallied though and managed to restore the 3 goal lead on 75 minutes and then it was easy to hold on for the final whistle and the win.
Not sure what happened with Cordoba, maybe the trip didn't suit them but we will take the win as we are fully aware that the games coming up will not be easy and we are unlikely to win at a canter as we did here.

Reds (1) 1 - 0 (0) Fortin

A bit shocked by the tactics to the visiting team but Will and his South-American outfit really went for it when they set up with attacking football from the start. However, we managed to control the game but only thanks to our roster being better than theirs. This could easily been a big upset. Dominik Szoboszlai scored the only goal of the game and it came after only four minutes played. Both teams had chances to make the game a high scoring game but the two teams defended really well. Despite having only a goal in it, it was a joyful game to watch and great to see a team coming to Anfield looking to make an upset.

Aston Villa 6-0 Flamengo

I said in the buildup to this one that we needed to get a win to kick start our season and try to make sure we avoid group elimination once again. Well we did that in some style!

The Brazilians arrived in the UK managerless and pretty clueless as we dominated procedings scoring five first half goals. There were the first competitive goals for Matheus Cunha and Bruno Guimaraes who both grabbed braces whilst Anthony Gordon got his account for the season up and running from the penalty spot. The only disappointment was that we didn't add more after the break until the last minute when Bentancur grabbed his first for the club.may be his last as well as news came out shortly after the game that a sale of him to Sheffield United has been agreed. More on that to come in the Villa fanzine.

So a very pleasant and settling win after two defeats to start the season. We know games will get a lot harder than this and it's early days but getting that goal difference boost is going to be very nice as the group develops. It looks set to be a competition dominated by the English teams so we are probably going to need those extra goals to seperate from someone in the final knockings.

Hopefully we can take confidence from this one and kick on as we return to league action this weekend.
