Stoke City v Brentford

My initial thoughts on the game. Hope it’s helpful?

Stoke started with HA and TA (CvP).

Both teams used a 4 1 3 1 1 formation.

Team wise Stoke had slightly better keeper, stacked up better in tackling and midfield (on paper) and with TA (when CvP especially) had the far better striking stats.
Stoke City - 4-1-3-1-1 C Tk: 128.55 Ps: 157.25 Sh: 88.00
Brentford - 4-1-3-1-1 P Tk: 121.74 Ps: 160.80 Sh: 45.44
Brentford switched to C after going 1 goal ahead on 8 minutes which brought the teams a little more in line and once the sides were both playing C there was precious little between the two sides apart from Stoke midfield looked the stronger on paper while Brentford had the more striking flair up front with 30 rated J_Vardy. Neither of which were reflected in the numbers below.
Stoke City - 4-1-3-1-1 C Tk: 124.44 Ps: 152.22 Sh: 85.16
Brentford - 4-1-3-1-1 C Tk: 117.85 Ps: 155.67 Sh: 43.99

E_Ampadu (DM) sent off for a second yellow on 64 minutes which meant we probably had no chance after that even though only 1 goal down at the time.

Stoke switched to A after going two goals down on 73 minutes to no avail, but as expected against the C strategy being employed by Brentford. Although the numbers below still give the edge to Stoke.
Stoke City - 4-1-3-1-1 A Tk: 91.47 Ps: 95.18 Sh: 71.42
Brentford - 4-1-3-1-1 C Tk: 95.16 Ps: 95.73 Sh: 56.22

On balance I think the scoreline didn't reflect the numbers, but then the sending off made things far worse for Stoke than they might have been had the game stayed at 11 v 11.

Final stats were

Stoke City 0 – 3 Brentford

Possession 50/50

Goal attempts: Stoke 6/0 and Brentford 7/6

Taking into account the tactical changes, and red card plus striker strength I dont think this result can go down as a freak result more an unlucky one. Your comments are very helpful and I look forward to seeing how Stoke progress tactically during this tournament.

Yeah definitely an unlucky rather than a freak result. Puts us very much on the back foot for the rest of the competition.

Well played @stocko74

-------------------------------------------------------------
Stoke City 0 - 3 Brentford
Sent Off: E_Ampadu (64) J_Vardy (7,73)
Neymar (80)

very happy with the win considering my options were limited due to only have a certain amount of players but happy that my 2 main strikers both scored
